Since Siwa and Tut have been living with us, the finca feels even more alive.
Since Siwa and Tut have been living with us, the finca feels even more alive.
These two little creatures move through our days and they constantly remind us of something important, namely life itself.
They run through the house as if every room is meant to be rediscovered. They jump on each other, roll on the floor, seek out the sun, and then fall down somewhere to completely surrender to rest. And sometimes they make Dad angry when they’re lounging on the couch again or right in front of the window haha. 😆 To me, it’s just like having two little Bastet bundles of energy living here.
Within the Egyptian mysteries, Bastet is associated with the cat. She represents protection, femininity, sensuality, joy, and domestic life. To me, she carries an energy that is soft, playful, warm, and at the same time clear and powerful.
And Bastet is about being fully present in life. About daring to enjoy what you feel, daring to inhabit your body, remaining curious, and playing from pure zest for life. About resting when your body asks for it and feeling what is right for you.
Anyone who has ever lived with cats probably knows that movement well. A cat moves at her own rhythm. She seeks contact when it feels right and withdraws when she needs space. One moment she can be lying asleep completely relaxed, and five minutes later she is flying through the house as if life energy is bursting through every cell.

That is Bastet to me too: gentle life energy allowed to move freely, with a nice explosion here and there 💥
Siwa and Tut bring that energy into our home, day after day. They take us out of our heads and back into the moment. When we are working and suddenly see two kittens bouncing around the room, a smile appears on our faces automatically. When one climbs onto our lap, everything slows down for a moment.
When they can play endlessly with something simple, they remind us how much fun is available when you are truly present. Liveliness is often found in something small. In sunlight on your skin. In eating something tasty. In laughing together. In dancing through the living room. In feeling your body. In playing. In a cat that suddenly decides your feet are the most interesting toy in the world.
They remind us that pleasure is a form of life energy.
That is why I find Bastet such an interesting force. Spirituality can be deep, transformative, and intense. We heal, feel, understand, remember, and move through layers.
And at the same time, there is simply earthly life, here in the now. Which we may learn to enjoy fully.
Enjoying that you have a body. That you can feel, taste, move, touch, laugh, and play. For me, that is an integral part of life. Perhaps even one of the most direct ways to experience your life energy.
Bastet reminds me that life energy is allowed to purr, play, seduce, enjoy, relax, and act silly. And I enjoy the fact that this energy is literally running through our house right now in the form of two little Egyptian kittens.
Siwa and Tut are perhaps our daily Bastet teaching.
A reminder to feel more often, to enjoy, to stay curious, and to make room for fun. To live life and play with it.
